Bob Dylan: "Angelina" from the album "The Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3", 19912 comments on "Angelina"![]() "The Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3", Track #51 DEAN DEHARPPPORTE: This song may have the most obscure lyrics of any Dylan song and the rhymings with "Angelina" are so strained as to be almost comical. I have almost convinced myself that there the lyrics do not relate to one another, that they stand alone and that the song as a whole is meaningless. Yet, yet that can't be true. If it were true, why would I feel the eruption of emotion at the end of every verse. How could the song make me feel as though it was my fault that the lyrics don't make any sense, that there is hidden somewhere a meaning that could only be conveyed by a genius. (03/11/06) JOE: The opening salvo, couplet, encapsulates the man's whole approach. The balls to ryhme subpoena with Angelina...can ANY one else not only get away with that or make it work so f-ing brilliantly? Begging God for mercy and weeping in unholy places, indeed. (05/07/05) |
