CBMAN: Coming in under the 1980's wire and after a couple of very so-s0 albums, 1989's Oh Mercy was a superb surprise from Bob. Thanks to Daniel Lanois, Oh Mercy sounded unlike any other Bob record, a real groover. Political World was the single and first blast from the record. John Mellencamp was so knocked out, he asked to direct the video for Political World. How about that for rock trivia! (12/20/08)

DAVID DIXON: Bob has said many (sometimes contradictory) things about his protest period. One that resonates with me is his claim that he didn't write protest songs-he wrote about injustice. People still seem to want him to be political, but his view of politics transcends individual issues. His issue is justice in a world where "love don't have any place." The song is a powerful indictment of the "way things are done." (12/20/07)
